What is Couples and Family Therapy?

Couples and family therapy focuses on helping individual relationships and the overall dynamics of a group to identify destructive patterns that could be causing stress or frustration. It also helps families learn how to communicate better with one another so that everyone’s needs are met.

Moreover, this treatment is about creating a more profound understanding between two people (or a group), so the relationship can flourish, providing a safe space for expressing feelings, values, fears, and expectations without judgment.

How Does It Work?

We provide Emotionally Focused Family Therapy and Emotion Focus therapy for couples. By assisting families and couples in identifying harmful patterns, these approaches help create an emotionally safe environment in which they can express their feelings and concerns without fear of judgment or criticism.

This will also help everyone to understand each other’s needs better, enabling them to work together to build a stronger bond and identify patterns of behavior within their home that create stress or conflict and then work toward finding solutions for those issues. Through this process, each member can work together to resolve disputes while strengthening their bond.

Overall, this will help each member to support each other better during difficult times while maintaining healthy boundaries.

3 Key Benefits

#1 Create Healthy Communication Habits

We believe that clear communication is one of the core components of a healthy relationship. That’s why our therapy sessions focus on helping individuals in the relationship develop healthy communication habits.

With improved communication skills, all parties involved can more easily express their feelings and needs without resorting to destructive tactics like manipulation or passive aggression.

#2 Gain Insight Into Your Own Role in Conflict Situations

To effectively resolve conflicts with other people, it is important to examine yourself first—this includes taking responsibility for your actions as well as recognizing when you might be overstepping boundaries in arguments with others.

By gaining insight into your role in conflict situations, you are better equipped to work through issues with others from a place of understanding rather than anger or frustration.

#3 Build Stronger Connections Over Time

The main goal of the therapy is to create stronger connections between the individuals involved over time by helping them work through any issues they may have together constructively. This includes assisting in bridging any gaps that may exist between different generations within a family unit, as well as fostering more profound levels of trust between romantic partners.

Hence, they will feel comfortable expressing their true thoughts and feelings to each other. This will strengthen the relationships between everyone involved so they can move forward with greater understanding and support for one another.

How Sessions Look

Here at The Wise Self, we understand that each relationship is unique. Every session is tailored specifically toward the needs of the client(s).

The sessions will start with a free consultation to get an accurate understanding of your therapy goals and answer any questions, then typically follow with some assessments to identify any underlying issues that may be preventing progress in the relationship dynamics.

From there, you will begin discussing challenges and progress within your relationship(s). This could be anything from anger management techniques or communication skills; whatever works best for the particular couple/family unit!

What should I expect?

At your first session, you will be welcomed by one of our experienced therapists, who will introduce themselves and start getting to know you. They'll ask about your relationship history, any struggles that brought you into therapy, as well as your current concerns. Afterward, they'll explain how the treatment works here at the practice and answer any questions you may have.

Once we understand your goals and expectations for therapy, we'll move on to addressing issues in greater depth. This includes identifying behavior patterns within a relationship that are not serving it well and exploring underlying feelings such as anger, hurt, or fear. With our therapist's help, you will develop strategies to create healthier communication styles and positive coping mechanisms to help each person better handle difficult emotions or situations.

In addition to these elements mentioned above, each couple or family therapy session may involve role-playing exercises or guided activities designed specifically for your needs.
